Bears/Chargers FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON, Kickoff at 4:15 Sunday Sept. 9th
Gael Pub, 83rd st and 3rd ave (see below for details)

New York City Bears Fans:

It's finally here. Holy cow, it's finally here.

Fall. Starbucks Pumpkin Spice lattes. Slightly colder weather. Oktoberfest. But most importantly: Football.

Yes, it's that time of the year again, when Chicago Bears fans come out of their summertime hibernation to once again cheer our boys on to victory. After all, there's not a better remedy to the seasonal depression brought on by another Cubbies playoff miss than our Chicago Bears.

Last year, the Bears went 13-3, a regular season record that brought both team and fans to a snowy, fairy tale-like NFC Championship game against the New Orleans Saints. I don't know if you remember what you were doing when Drew Brees threw that safety, but I sure do - I was jumping up and down on a barstool at The Gael, surrounded by more than 200 screaming Bears fans.

Make sure you come out again this Sunday for what's being called one of the most important games of the season. It's sure to be an exciting match as the Bears defense tests the agility of LaDainian Tomlinson and Rex Grossman shows us that he really is better than he was last year.

RSVP by going here:http://www.nycbearsfans.com/games/bears-chargers and leaving a comment.

And as always, there's more than one reason to want to come out to the Gael:

  • Goose Island Honkers Ale, Nut Brown Ale, and Oatmeal Stout - Straight from the Goose Island Brewery in Chicago, IL.
  • Chicago-style Hot Dogs - You know what these are: Vienna all-beef hot dogs, dragged through the garden (for the uninitiated: tomato slices, peppers, relish, celery salt, pickle spear) served on a steamed poppyseed bun.
  • Polish Sausage - Ditka... Polish Sausage... Ditka... Bears... Ditka... The venerable Polish Sausage, like Mike Ditka, George Halas, or the SNL Superfans, is a Bears institution. And the Gael will have them.
  • Great specials on beer, booze and food, every gameday.
  • Give-aways - Every game, The Gael will raffle off a $50 bar tab, and occasionally some Bears gear as well.

Remember, the season starts on Sunday with the Bears vs the Chargers. I'm thinking that after this game, LT is going to think twice before he does a commercial involving him breaking Bears tackles.

Kickoff is at 4:15 on Sunday September 9th, with highlight footage from the Bears' 2006 season starting at 3:30.

Also, don't forget that you can forward this email to a friend if you know someone who's not on the list.

Bear Down,
Phil

P.S. - Don't forget to practice singing "Bear Down" - we play the song after every touchdown! Here are the lyrics, in case you need a quick refresher:

Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
Make every play clear the way to victory!
Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
Put up a fight with a might so fearlessly!

We'll never forget the way you thrilled the nation,
With your T formation.

Bear Down, Chicago Bears.
And let them know why you're wearing the crown.

You're the pride and joy of Illinois,
Chicago Bears, Bear Down!
